Last Class!

If you look at my site, you might think that it is very elementary. It is! I had never created a website before these classes. My first blog was a disaster, this blog was much easier to lay out and it looks a whole lot better. I credit the teachers of this class with my improvement. Thank you,
I hope to keep investigating internet search engines and find new and inventive ways for my students to learn.
See you in the Fall

Homework # 3 HippoCampus

What a great web-site!
I wish that it was available when I was in college. Not only did it feel like I was working with a private tutor, but the computer interaction made it feel like I was playing a game.
Unfortunately, it's not something that I can use with my students. I wish that someone would create a web-site for functional academics that is similar to HippoCampus. I think that my students would find that interaction stimulating.

Homework # 2 Thinkfinity

My first experience with Thinkfinity.org was to try and find information on Life skills curriculum. As with so many of my life skills investigations I was unsucessful.
I then searched for specific lessons such as time, money, and measurement. I found quit a few ideas for these lessons but nothing for life skills training.
Next, I tried vocational education. Again, nothing came up. I understand that this is a fairly new educational path, but I was hopeful to find some information.

Thinkfinity could be a useful tool for teachers who's curriculum is standard and is not specialized. Personally, I don't feel that Thinkfinity is more useful than Google Search.

Vocational Education and RSS

None of my students could benefit from using RSS. My most capable students can barely surf the web. RSS would be above their abilities. I can see that I could benefit from using RSS. LIF (Limited Intellectual Functioning) Special Education is a fairly new educational program for students with mild to severe mental retardation. The program teaches them functional reading and math
but focuses on life skills. Finding curriculum that suites my students has been difficult. I have found many valuable lessons on the web. I can see where RSS can limit the time spent searching the web for lessons. RSS would keep me updated on current research without spending hours looking for viable sources.

How do you use or want to use technology in your classroom.

I am excited to be enrolled in this class! Last semester I learned so much about computer programs that I now use with my students. I hope to extend the learning this semester and find new and engaging ways to capture my students attention using technology.
